Team Coordinator, Operations Skills Development

Cobb EMC is seeking an experienced and collaborative Team Coordinator, Operations Skills Development to lead and support training initiatives across the Operations Department.

In this role, you will identify training needs, develop and coordinate technical learning programs, evaluate field skills, and help employees gain the knowledge required to perform their jobs safely and efficiently. You will also maintain training curriculum and facilitate the Northwest Lineman College Power Delivery Program. The position works closely with career academies and lineman schools to build relationships, increase awareness of Cobb EMC, and support the development of future talent.

 

 

Schedule: 4- 10 hour shifts per week, 6:30am-5pm (OT and on-call as needed)

Responsibilities

What you will be doing:

Lead Operations Training and Development

  • Develop, implement, and manage the Apprentice Lineman Training Program.
  • Identify training gaps and skill-development needs throughout Operations.
  • Coordinate training programs for forestry employees, equipment operators, apprentice linemen, first-class linemen, and foremen.
  • Manage the Northwest Georgia Lineman Program, including orientation, training materials, books, testing, and program delivery.
  • Maintain continuity of training at the training and evaluation yard.
  • Coordinate training for the installation and operation of new electrical equipment.
  • Document, analyze, and report each participant’s progress within assigned training programs. 

Evaluate Skills and Strengthen Safety

  • Observe employees in the field to identify individual training and development needs.
  • Coordinate field evaluations for designated Operations employees.
  • Observe live-line maintenance activities and evaluate work practices for safety, efficiency, and technical knowledge.
  • Conduct crew visits and after-hours inspections to evaluate work procedures, employee skills, and additional training needs.
  • Provide constructive feedback and appropriate input for development plans and employee evaluations.
  • Promote safe work practices and report unsafe conditions, environments, or procedures. 

Manage Programs, Reports, and Budgets

  • Prepare monthly training schedules.
  • Report employee training progress monthly, quarterly, and annually.
  • Prepare SWOT analyses for employees participating in training programs.
  • Assist with the annual Operations training budget, including external training opportunities.
  • Monitor training-related expenditures effectively. 

Support and Develop Employees

  • Coach employees and reinforce learning through direct involvement.
  • Manage daily workloads and schedules.
  • Conduct performance planning and review sessions.
  • Handle employment responsibilities for assigned staff, including hiring, promotion, training, and termination.
  • Promote fair and consistent treatment and actively support Equal Employment Opportunity. 

Deliver Outstanding Member Service

  • Ensure member inquiries are handled promptly, courteously, and professionally.
  • Follow concerns through to completion while providing fair and equitable treatment.
  • Resolve inquiries at the appropriate level whenever possible. 

Provide On-Call Leadership

  • Coordinate line crews and support efficient field operations.
  • Help ensure jobs are completed and power outages are restored within established timeframes.
  • Oversee crew-scheduling applications.
  • Supervise live-line work with a strong focus on crew safety.
  • Respond to emergency calls.
  • Manage the Command Center during outages when assigned

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

High School or equivalent. 

Minimum eight (8) years’ experience in electric utility line work (2) two years’ experience as 1st Class Lineman

Specialized training in live-line work, distribution line construction, and applied electricity. 

Knowledge of line feed system locations and interpretation of system maps.

Demonstrated expertise in the principles of basic electricity, safety rules and regulations, and corporate policies and procedures.

Knowledge of the SCADA system, distribution lines, substation locations, and load management systems and equipment.

Thorough knowledge of Georgia Utility Facility Protection Act (GUFPA) regulations.

Knowledge of Georgia’s National Pollutions Discharge Erosion Sediment (NPDES) Control.

Successful completion of the Northwest Georgia Lineman Program within 2 years of hire.

                                                                                                                                                                            

SKILLS:

Demonstrated decision-making skills, excellent communication skills, and excellent planning and organizational skills. 

Ability to effectively communicate technical information in a training environment to various skill set employees.

Proficiency with personal computers.  Basic Knowledge of MS Office Suite. 

Possess valid Georgia Flagging Certification and Cobb County Excavating and Trenching Certification.

Possess valid Class A Commercial Georgia driver’s license and relevant endorsements

Possess an Integrated Transmission System (ITS) Operator's Certification.
