Overview

Cobb EMC has an exciting opportunity for a Supervisor, Field Engineering to supervise and coordinate all staking functions for system extensions and relocations.  To train and mentor Engineering Technicians in utilizing the staking/design tools, Work Management System (WMS) and GIS to maximize productivity and accuracy of the design work. To collaborate with Operations, System Planning and Protection to design a safe and reliable distribution grid.

 

Schedule: Monday- Friday, 4- 10 hour shifts per week

Responsibilities

What you will be doing:

 

Distribution System Design and Staking
  • Ensure that the distribution system is designed and staked per corporate and NESC specifications.
  • Assist in coordinating materials and construction for a safe and reliable distribution system.
  • Maintain and communicate current knowledge of changes, procedures, and improvements impacting system design.
  • Ensure appropriate easements, permits and agreements are obtained.
  • Ensure accurate preparation of fault current calculations for customers, as requested.
  • Ensure accurate preparation of engineering calculations such as pole loading, guying, conductor loading and sagging.
  • Mentor and organize training sessions for engineering techs to learn O-Calc, a pole loading software tool.
  • Maintain Subject matter expertise in lighting designs.
  • Determine the type of metering required for customers.
  • Calculate cost estimates for facility relocations and required commercial deposits.
  • Coordinate with county and state government and other utilities.
  • Coordinate all design development to meet project schedules.
  • Design and stake complex jobs as necessary including but not limited to duct bank and vault systems, automatic transfer schemes and industrial loads.
  • Provide engineering technical support to the Commercial/ Industrial Development Department to assist in winning large customer choice loads.
  • Ensure that staking sheets are checked daily for graphic accuracy, pole loading, and that final MU/CU work order processing is performed in the WMS application.
  • Ensure accuracy of work order data on all jobs completed by subordinate staff.
Paperwork
  • Check time sheets daily to ensure proper assignment of work orders.
  • Review all written documents, including contracts, easements, and cost estimates, before presenting to customers.
E&O Systems and Applications
  • Maintain and communicate current knowledge of GIS, CIS, ABS and Work Management systems.
  • Train and assist in learning Lighting Design software tools.
  • Train and assist in learning the use of Top-Con units to collect GPS coordinates of field assets.
  • Ensure accurate geo-location (GPS) data for poles and Manholes.
  • Ensure data accuracy and completeness of workorders in GIS, ABS, Accounting and CIS.
  • Maintain competence in the use of corporate systems applications.
  • Resolve workorder and workflow issues.
  • Innovate and make suggestions for improving systems operations and applications.
  • Train and assist in learning E&O system and Applications
Power Distribution System Operations
  • Maintain through knowledge of substation and feeder layouts.
  • Assist power control in developing switch plans.
  • Collaborate with System planning in developing self-healing grid system.
  • Assist in designing and construction of Microgrid and DER interconnections.
  • Innovate and make suggestions for improving system reliability.
  • Collaborate with power control in maintaining accurate system one-line diagram.
Customer Inquiries
  • Keep supervisor informed of any unusual customer complaints.
  • Ensure that all customer complaints from the field within your area of responsibility are immediately resolved.
  • Ensure unresolved complaints are routed to the proper personnel within one day of notification.
Supervision
  • Handle all aspects of employment for subordinate staff, including hiring, promotion, training, and termination.
  • Appropriately document actions in employment issues.
  • Coaching and direct learning through direct involvement and reinforcement.
  • Analyze and manage daily workload and schedules.
  • Monitor performance and conduct performance planning and review sessions.
  • Ensure fair and consistent treatment of departmental employees.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

Associate degree in Engineering or related field; or a combination of relevant education & equivalent work experience.

Minimum 5 years of experience in designing and staking power distribution lines.

Previous experience in designing self-healing and microgrids.

Thorough knowledge of system protection and distribution automation devices.

Working knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).

Thorough knowledge of construction specifications and line extension practices.

Work expertise in staking operations and construction standards.

Knowledge of GIS, CIS, ABS, NJUNS and electric utility equipment and materials.

 

SKILLS:

Excellent oral and written communication skills.        

Interpersonal skills for interacting with customers.

Excellent judgment and decision-making skills.

Proficiency with personal computers including Word, Excel, Smart Sheets and Work Management System.

Possess valid Integrated Transmission System (ITS) Access-Only Certificate.

Possess valid Georgia driver's license.

 

PREFERRED:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

Previous supervisory experience
